priscilla

Priscilla is a happy miracle. This pretty mare was in a feedlot in Colorado along with Swayze they were both listed as mustangs. It was winter and the lot told us that their white necks prevented their brands from showing but they were for sure BLM mustangs. We said yes to taking them in. Priscilla wasn’t as skinny as Swayze not as sick. She travelled well to us but then was found to have strangles when she arrived. Both horses went through quarantine together and became as close as two horses can be. As they regained their health Priscilla also got bigger and bigger and we realized she was pregnant. What a happy day when we realized we had rescued not two but three horses from shipping to slaughter.

Swayze loved her but sadly when the foal was born, named Dalton, he didn’t like him and it wasn’t safe for them to be together as a family. As well as which Priscilla would be aggressive towards Swayze when he came near them. We had to separate them and Priscilla started to raise Dalton as a single mother. One day we decided to give it a try so that Dalton would have friends and we added them to Bear’s herd where the babies could play and the mothers could protect the young ones from predators. They thrived. Dalton is still with that herd but Priscilla fell in love with Jackson over the fence and we let her go with him and she now runs with Jackson in Buddy’s herd. She is a gorgeous mare and Dalton is one happy boy.

Overall message

These are just a few of the Mustangs we have brought to the ranch, there are so many more that need a safe environment to live in.

Check back soon and meet other rescued horses and please donate to help us save more mustangs.  Over 150,000 American horses are shipped to Mexico and Canada every year and killed in the most inhumane and brutal painful way imaginable - stop the slaughter by lobbying your congressmen to Pass The SAFE ACT......
