Braveheart was a horse we had been asked to take for months but didn’t have space for him. This gelding is a 15 year old New Mexico mustang born in BLM holding. He was adopted and gentled but then ended up in Arizona with an older gentleman who really couldn’t care for him properly. We were told he was in a tiny pipe corral which shrank in size every time this destructive and traumatized mustang would smash a panel trying to get out. He stood in this tiny square pen without shade or shelter for years and years, they emptied his water into his pen so he got continual abscesses in his hooves, and a horse chewed his tail off through the pipe stall. He was said to be destructive, spooky and dangerous. But we took him in.
Braveheart had to spend a little time in our barn while his feet healed up and we got him a little more food to give him the strength to join one of our herds. While there he met and bonded with one of our other horses named Ripley. They became best friends and now are turned out together with a herd of eleven other wild mustangs living their best life. We are so grateful to everyone who donated to help us bring him to us.
These are just a few of the Mustangs we have brought to the ranch, there are so many more that need a safe environment to live in.
Check back soon and meet other rescued horses and please donate to help us save more mustangs. Over 150,000 American horses are shipped to Mexico and Canada every year and killed in the most inhumane and brutal painful way imaginable - stop the slaughter by lobbying your congressmen to Pass The SAFE ACT......
