Prince Harry

Prince Harry came to us with auction glue in his mane, a matted tale like a baseball bat, saddle scars, and halter dents in his face. He was bald and covered with wrinkles, which might be explained by a skin infection or he may have been fat before he was starved.

His brand is the craziest I’ve ever seen and we couldn’t read much from it. We’ll never know which herd he came from. We were able to decipher that when we saved him from a Louisiana kill pen in 2019, he was 24 years old! This is a horse who had definitely been worked. This made it even more obscene that he was dumped at that age. I believe Prince Harry gave everything for his humans, only to be horribly betrayed.

Harry was first in line for some powerful body work and he responded to it well. His face was so relaxed and blissed out, the worry wrinkle above his eye disappeared completely.

Prince Harry is a gentleman with perfect manners. He’s polite, regal, and dignified. He always moves off hay for whomever else would like it. He shows humility and grace under pressure. He was always sweet to baby Skye and melted Dream’s grumpy heart. He put up with three young donkeys with patience and kindness and plays with Boots the Mini-Mule. The thought that somebody didn't see how lovely he is and sent him to slaughter when he was no longer of use makes me so very sad. 

Harry is not meant for the Oregon wilds. He prefers senior assisted living in the California sunshine. He has grown accustomed to the royal treatment our volunteers have given him in Malibu and Santa Ynez. He loves the pampering that comes with the most comfortable of retirements that he has earned and richly deserves.

Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act of 2025 (H.R.1661 in the House and S.775 in the Senate). This bill would amend the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, commonly known as the “Farm Bill”. There are several important provisions for animals in that omnibus federal law, including the Cat and Dog Meat Trade Prohibition Act. It is currently illegal to slaughter, transport, possess, purchase, sell, or donate dogs and cats, or their parts, for human consumption. The SAFE Act would extend the ban to equines and shut down the slaughter pipeline that sends some 20,000 American horses and donkeys to savagely monstrous deaths in foreign slaughterhouses every year.

The Wild Horse & Burro Protection Act of 2023 (H. R. 4356) The bill would eliminate the use of helicopters in rounding up wild horses and burros, and require a study into alternative methods for humanely gathering the animals.

Ejiao Act of 2025 (H.R. 5544). To ​​ban the sale or transportation of ejiao, a gelatin made from boiling donkey skins, or products containing ejiao in interstate or foreign commerce, which brutally kills millions of donkeys primarily for beauty products and Chinese medicine.
