Ranger

Ranger was taken in at 23 years old and is an older stallion that was rounded up and had been at Burns corrals for about a year; he was likely on his way to long-term holding due to his old age. He was sought out and brought to Skydog so he could be reunited with Rango and perhaps even help Rango settle and heal from his awful ordeals in his short time in the human world post helicopter round up.

These two horses are considered “lucky” by many of us because we know there are literally thousands of others that will remain permanently separated from their herd mates and family members, left to languish and die in long term holding facilities, or end up in unworthy or even abusing adoption placements and/or sent to slaughter in Mexico or Canada. This needs to stop. Our tax money is paying for this mismanagement of our public lands and these supposedly federally protected national icons. #skydogranger

Ranger passed away peacefully overnight at our sanctuary close to Rango and Commander and close to his brother Cruiser. We are glad he had the few months with us he did to put on weight and be at peace.

 Overall message

These are just a few of the Mustangs we have brought to the ranch. There are so many more that need a safe environment to live in.

Check back soon and meet other rescued horses and please donate to help us save more mustangs. Over 150,000 American horses are shipped to Mexico and Canada every year and killed in the most inhumane and brutal painful way imaginable. Stop the slaughter by lobbying your congressmen to Pass The SAFE Act.
